James Cameron revealed his next plans for "Avatar." He's preparing a lot of new things.

The next installment of the iconic "Avatar" franchise, "Avatar: Fire and Ashes," will premiere in December. While promoting the project, James Cameron shared his further ideas for the title. His plans, though still in their early stages, include creating an animated anthology series.
James Cameron revealed to Empire magazine that he was in talks with Disney about expanding his cult "Avatar" franchise into an animated film.
"I said I wanted to make an animated anthology series that essentially takes place in the real world, but tells stories you wouldn't expect in that world," the director said in an interview.
The three-time Oscar winner revealed that the inspiration for continuing the title in this form was the 2003 animated anthology series "The Animatrix," which alluded to the setting of the film "The Matrix." Cameron noted that he also wanted to use the animated series to explore side plots from "Avatar," the characters' stories that weren't explored in the films.
When is the premiere of "Avatar: Fire and Ashes"?"Who landed on Pandora first? The first expedition. We haven't done much with it yet. We're still gathering our stories and things like that, and I need to find exceptional filmmakers and animators who are willing to take on this," he added.
For now, however, fans of the series are more interested in the prospect of the December premiere of "Avatar: Fire and Ashes" than in the distant plans for the animation, which, as the filmmaker himself announced, will be a feast for the eyes.
"It's a wild adventure and a feast for the eyes, but also a film with very high emotions. We're entering truly difficult territory for all the characters you know and love," the director commented. Cameron's previous announcements indicate that a total of five "Avatar" installments will be made. The next two will debut on the big screen in 2029 and 2031.
